Headset Amplifiers

Choosing an Amplifier

The amplifier can have an essential role to play in setting up a system that is to make use of headsets but also has useful features in its own right. To use a headset, it has to be compatible with and linked to a telephone. Amplifiers provide an interface that overcomes the problem of connecting headsets to the different types of telephone.

Amplifier Features

Volume control
Receive The receive control allows adjustment of the volume signal to the speaker so that the other party can be heard at a comfortable level.
Transmit The transmit control allows adjustment of the volume going through the microphone, so the other party can hear the user at a comfortable level.

Headset/Handset Switch
This switch allows convenient interchange between handset and headset.

Quick Disconnect
The Quick Disconnect feature allows the user to move away from the phone without removing the headset and, at the same time, continuing the connection with the other party who is effectively put 'on hold'.

Mute Button
Enables the user to converse without being heard by the other party on the connection. Once pushed. the microphone is muted allowing free conversation and can be toggled on and off.

Hearing protection
Protects against sudden surges in volume.

On-line "Do Not Disturb" Indicator
With prolonged headset use, it may not be possible for others to know if a call is in progress. The indicator light gives a visual means of determining the current status and therefore minimizes interruptions.

Power
Some amplifiers are powered by either batteries or AC power supply and others use the existing phone system.

Battery Low Indicator
An audible alert is heard in the headset to indicate that the batteries are running low and are in need of change.

Battery Save
If the unit is not used continuously, a "sleep" function extends battery life by powering down after a specified idle period.

Headset Stand
A stand providing storage for the headset whilst not in use.

Although some amplifiers are almost universally compatible with all telephones and systems, please provide details of the system and type of headset in use so that Communications Solutions can determine an appropriate unit for your requirements.
