GN Netcom Computer Headsets
1. How do I connect a headset to a computer? Headsets can be connected to your computer in two ways either through your soundcard with two standard 3.5 mm jacks or directly into your USB port, with a USB adapter.
2. Which GN Netcom products connect to my computer via a sound card?
The GN 8050 TCA and the SeleCT switch allow you to connect a GN Netcom headset to both your computer and telephone. Both
have two standard 3.5mm plugs to interface with your computer's sound card and a standard RJ11 handset plug to connect to your phone.
3. Is it possible to set the volume for the GN Netcom headset in software?
Yes, most computer software provides a volume control that allows you to do this.
4. What sound cards are compatible with GN Netcom headsets?
GN Netcom headsets are compatible with most sound cards, voice modems and computers with integrated audio. In general, a GN Netcom headset is compatible with devices that provide two 3.5mm stereo interfaces, provide a bias of 2 to 9 volts to the tip of the microphone connector, and expect a microphone level input.
5. Which GN Netcom products connect to my computer using the USB Port?
The GN8110 USB Adapter connects directly to your computer via the USB serial port, and is compatible with the following operating systems: Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), Windows 2000, Windows ME, Mac OS, Mac OS 9.04 or higher. Compatibility is not dependant on the computer manufacturer, only the operating system.
6. Is the GN 8110 USB Adapter easy to set up?
Yes, no software is required to install the GN 8110 USB Adapter. In fact when installing it on Windows 98SE and Windows 2000, the system will detect the new hardware immediately upon connection.
7. Why would I choose to use a GN 8110 Adapter?
The GN 8110 USB Adapter is designed for professional applications, such as when an office or call centre makes an investment in computer-based telephony or VoIP applications. It contains a powerful 32-bit digital signal processor (DSP), which provided enhanced sound quality. It reduces the echo and click problems usually associated with VoIP, be bypassing the sound card and plugging directly into the computers USB port.
8. Why not use a headset plugged into the sound card?
Basically for the same reasons as above. Sound cards are really designed for games and listening to music not telephony.
9. Can I use the GN 8110 Adapter to listen to music?
You can listen to any MP3 files or Internet radio through the GN 8110 USB Adapter. However, music CD's do not play through any USB audio system without additional
software.
