Headsets
The choice of a particular headset configuration is very
much a matter of both personal and practical consideration.
Do
you need a headset?
If you have ever cradled your phone between your neck and
shoulder then the answer must be yes!
Consider that a headset always leaves your hands free to access your PC or
other equipment whilst still talking on the telephone.
If you spend
up to 2 hours per day on the telephone or up to 20 minutes on one call you
are strongly recommended to use a headset.
Independent
medical research conducted by the Rubens Institute has shown that wearing
a headset can reduce stress and muscle strain problems associated with
protracted telephone handset use for people like you by up to 41%.
Today
there are two major types of headset available:
-
Corded
The user is
attached by means of a light weight flexible cable to the telephone.
Typically these headsets have a quick disconnect to enable the user
to leave their desks without having to remove the headset.
-
Cordless
The user has the freedom to leave their desk and in some
cases answer calls remotely. These
headsets are either based on DECT or Bluetooth technology.
You will find that a headset will improve your productivity,
posture and comfort at your desk.

Glossary
Monaural
or Mono headsets
have a headband with single ear receiver.
Binaural or Duo headsets have a headband with two ear receivers.
Headbands
are adjustable for comfort and good fit.
On
the Ear
headsets typically use earhooks that fit ‘on the ear’ or flexi-earloops
that fit around the ear itself.
Convertible headsets offer a choice of
wearing styles. You choose
whether you prefer a headband or ‘over the ear’ headset from the one
basic unit. Take a look at the GN2100
for example
QD
or Quick Disconnect - The quick disconnect clip half way along a
headset cable allows the user to leave their desk without having to remove
their headset.
Omni-directional
microphones pick up sound from all directions.
Noise-Cancelling
microphones screen out extraneous sound that makes them ideal for noisy
work environments or open plan offices.
Noise cancelling improves the quality of a call primarily for the
caller who does not hear the background noise around the headset wearer.
DECT
Technology
(Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telephony) is used for desk based cordless
headsets offering a range of typically 50 metres in an office environment.
Take a look at the GN9120.
Bluetooth Technology is used for
cordless headsets that may be linked to both desk telephones
or Bluetooth enabled mobile phones. This technology
typically provides a range of up to 10m.
